10th Unit 6 - Argumentative Writing Topics & Opposing Viewpoints: Home

Students will use this libguide to choose from the available topics for our final unit - argumentative writing! Once a topic has been selected, students will determine on which side of the issue they stand and prepare a TED Talk on their viewpoint.

Unit 6 - Introduction & Description

In Unit 6, students will be showcasing their skills in argumentative writing again to close out our year together in Multicultural Literature. As part of our final unit we will be reading Trevor Noah's autobiography Born a Crime. The topics available for students to choose from in this LibGuide represent some of the more prevalent and thematic issues at play in the novel and it will be up to students to decide on which side of the issues they stand. Once students have decided on an issue, they will be responsible for researching it, analyzing an existing argument on the topic, and eventually creating their own script and visual aid for a TED Talk on their topics. Topics include:

  • Bilingual Education
  • Crime
  • Cultural Appropriation
  • Domestic Violence
  • Interracial Marriage
  • Juvenile Justice System
  • Poverty
